Mumbai, May 28 (Reporter) The Maharashtra government has sanctioned a subsidy of Rs 30 crore to support cow shelters across the state, officials said on Wednesday. This initiative aims to bolster the welfare and upkeep of unproductive cattle, whose numbers have risen following a ban on cow slaughter. The State Cow Seva Commission had earlier submitted proposals for establishing cow shelters in 43 talukas, seeking financial assistance for their operation. Based on these recommendations, the government has approved subsidies ranging from Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh for 30 selected shelters, with the amount determined by the number of animals housed at each facility. The subsidies will be disbursed under the Govardhan Davanesh Seva Kendra scheme, which provides financial support to institutions dedicated to the care and maintenance of the cattle. The state-level selection committee, chaired by Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister Pankaja Munde reviewed and approved the proposals for the 30 cow shelters. Among the approved shelters, two are located in Pune, five in Solapur, four in Ahmednagar, and two each in Akola, Nanded, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Aurangabad and Osmanabad districts.
