New Delhi, July 29 (Reporter) The issue of the tragic death of three students in a flooded basement in Delhi’ Old Rajinder Nagar echoed in the Lok Sabha on Monday with members from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Opposition Congress demanding a probe into the matter. The matter was also mentioned in the Rajya Sabha as some members gave notices to the presiding officer for taking up a discussion on the incident. During zero hour in Lok Sabha, BJP member Bansuri Swaraj alleged that the tragedy resulted from criminal negligence on the part of the Delhi government. "Those students were in Delhi for the preparation of IAS examinations, but sadly I have to say that due to the criminal negligence of the Delhi government, those students have lost their lives. The cause of the death of these three students is the utter and absolute apathy of the Aam Aadmi Party’s ruling dispensation in Delhi," she alleged. Swaraj said the AAP has been in power in Delhi for the last 10 years and it is also ruling the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for the last two years but no up-gradation and desilting of drains has been done. Swaraj demanded that the Union Home Ministry should set up a probe committee to look into the matter. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor demanded action against the officials, saying no compensation would be enough in such an incident. "Violation of basic norms including building codes, fire safety and flood safety are rampant in the city and the corporation also has responsibility" he said. Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party also spoke about the issue and demanded an inquiry into the matter and action against the officers responsible for issuing no objection certificates (NOCs) to run unsafe coaching centres. "It's a painful incident. It's the responsibility of the officers to plan and provide NOCs, the question is who all are responsible and what actions are being taken against them. It's not just a single case of illegal building, we are seeing it in UP that illegal buildings are being bulldozed, will this government run a bulldozer here or not" said Akhilesh Yadav, in Lok Sabha. After three aspiring civil servants died n the basement at Rau's IAS coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday sealed seven properties and three basements for violating building bye-laws...////...
