New Delhi, July 31 (Reporter) The Lok Sabha witnessed noisy scenes followed by a brief adjournment on Wednesday as Opposition members sought an apology from BJP leader Anurag Thakur over his ‘caste’ remark against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and reiterated their demand for a caste census. Congress sources said the party plans to move a privilege motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sharing BJP MP Anurag Thakur’s “objectionable” speech on his social media handle. On Tuesday, Thakur, without naming Rahul Gandhi, remarked that there was suspense over the caste of those who were themselves seeking a caste census. The indirect reference to Rahul Gandhi’s caste during the discussion on the Union Budget on Tuesday sparked a heated exchange between the Opposition and treasury benches in the House, which echoed even during the proceedings on Wednesday. The din forced Speaker Om Birla to adjourn the House for about 20 minutes before noon. Amid the commotion on Wednesday, Rijiju condemned the Opposition protests, accusing the Congress of attempting to undermine the country and incite violence. He said the Congress has always worked to divide the country on caste lines. “Those who are always demanding a caste census are taking exception to a remark on caste,” Rijiju said. He criticised the Congress for focusing incessantly on caste issues and emphasised the need for all members to adhere to the rules and regulations of the House. Hours before there was an uproar in the House over Anurag Thakur's remark, the Prime Minister shared a video of Thakur’s speech on Tuesday on X and said it is a "must hear". "This speech by my young and energetic colleague, Shri @ianuragthakur is a must hear. A perfect mix of facts and humour, exposing the dirty politics of the INDI Alliance," he said. Reacting sharply to this, Congress said the Prime Minister had encouraged a "serious breach of parliamentary privilege" by sharing the speech, which it described as a "highly abusive and unconstitutional tirade". Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said that while expunged comments are edited out of videos uploaded online, Sansad TV has uploaded the unedited speech in this case. "This is a new and shameful low in the annals of India's parliamentary history. It reflects the BJP-RSS and Mr. Modi's deep-rooted casteism," he alleged. On Tuesday, after Anurag Thakur’s comments, Rahul Gandhi accused Thakur for insulting and abusing him during the debate but asserted that he would not seek any apology from Thakur, who is also a former Union minister. “Anurag Thakur insulted me and I don’t want any apology from him. Abuse or insult me as hard as you can but don’t forget, we will pass the caste census in this Parliament for sure,” the leader of Opposition said on Tuesday, claiming that those who talk about caste census always face brickbats...////...
