Kyiv, Jan 19 (Reporter) A court in Kyiv ordered pretrial detention for three suspects in a case concerning the supply of poor-quality clothing to the Ukrainian armed forces, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office said on Friday.
"The Pechersk District Court of the capital has chosen pretrial restrictions in the form of detention for three defendants in the criminal proceedings on the fact of supplying almost $1 billion hryvnias [$26.5 million] worth of poor-quality uniforms to the Ukrainian armed forces," the prosecutor's office said on Telegram.
The names of the defendants have not been revealed by the prosecutor’s office; however, Ukrainian Bureau of Investigations spokeswoman Tetiana Sapian said on Thursday Roman Grinkevich, son of Ukrainian entrepreneur Igor Grinkevich, had been put on the wanted list as a suspect in the case concerning army uniforms.
Ukrainian media reported that in addition to the entrepreneur and his son, there were three more suspects in the case, who allegedly were managers in the company owned by Grinkevich senior.
In late December, Ukrainian media reported that Grinkevich senior was arrested while attempting to bribe a top official of Ukraine's Bureau of Investigations who had been investigating the case concerning army uniforms.
The firm owned by Grinckevich and specializing in construction won 23 tenders to provide the country's military with clothing; it then bought the clothing in Turkey and resold it to the Ukrainian military with a 60 per cent margin...////...
