This year’s “How India Swiggy’d 2024 - Swiggy Instamart Edition” report reveals how the ‘City of Joy’ stayed rooted in tradition while diving headfirst into modern convenience.
On the report, Amitesh Jha, CEO, Swiggy Instamart, said, "Since launching in August 2021, we've seen Kolkata increasingly turn to the convenience of quick commerce, with everything from everyday essentials, toys, beauty, makeup, and even festive essentials delivered in just 10 minutes. The top purchases from the city include milk, dahi, onion, soft drinks and potato, with a city user spending as much as ₹8,56,920 on groceries, electronics and everything else they need in 10 mins. We're proud to be a part of this journey, making convenience a part of daily life, and helping our customers enjoy what they need, when they need it."
In 2024, Kolkata's quick commerce trends showcased the city's unique preferences. The top five items ordered were milk, dahi, onion, soft drinks, and potato. One dessert lover splurged over ₹1,00,000 on ice cream boxes, turning their freezer into a frosty haven fit for a Park Street-style dessert festival. Kolkatans also spent an eye-popping ₹15.1 crore on Maggi noodle packets this year, enough to create a noodle trail from Kolkata to Digha and back, multiple times.
With nearly 4,000 orders for party essentials and a cool ₹1.6 lakh spent on cocktail mixers, Kolkata ensured its gatherings were equal parts fun and flavourful. The city’s love for sweets was evident, with nearly ₹5 lakh spent on packed Indian sweets, proving that the love for roshogolla and sandesh knows no bounds. Kolkata also brought tradition home with hundreds of orders for kurtas and sarees, keeping the cultural charm alive.
The city went undercover with 7,477 Incognito orders, featuring sneaky buys like dark chocolates for those late-night cravings. From savouring mishti doi to devouring over ₹15 crores worth of Maggi noodles, Kolkata’s shopping habits reflect its soul—vibrant, indulgent, and always full of joy. Whether it’s keeping traditions alive with kurtas and sarees, throwing festive parties, or teching up homes, Swiggy Instamart ensured every Kolkatan’s day ended on a sweet, satisfying note—because in the City of Joy, every moment is worth celebrating, one order at a time...////...
