Kolkata, Sep 10 (Reporter) A massive rally was organised by the junior medics of the government hospitals at the state health secretariat here on Tuesday demanding the resignation of health department's principal secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam and his two deputies.
The medics alleged that the trio were responsible for the demolition and renovation of the seminar hall at the RG Kar Medical College and hospital after arrested former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh issued a letter for renovation of a portion of the seminar hall where the 31-year-old lady medic was raped and murdered on August 9.
Meanwhile, sources said the officials at state health secretariat was ready to hold discussions with the agitating medics to find out an amicable settlement for the current deadlock.The junior doctors have refused to return to work, despite the Supreme Court's directive as well as request from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to end their protest by 5 pm this evening.
The medics, however set an ultimatum to the Chief Minister to concede their five new demands, including sacking of city police commissioner Vineet Goyal, the principal secretary and his two deputies, arrest the culprits involved in the murder and exemplary punishment, safety and
secured working place and a conducive atmosphere in the hospitals.
A report said the agitating medics began a sit-in-protest demonstration at Karunamoyee near the state health secretariat when police stopped the rally to proceed further. The medics said they would
continue the sit-in-demonstration until their demands were conceded.
The doctors during their Lalbazar march early this month held demonstrations for nearly 24 hours on September 2 and 3 until they were allowed to call on police commissioner at his chamber and submitted a memorandum demanding his resignation.
A Medic Debashsish Haldar said if their demands were not conceded by the Chief Minister by 5 pm they would continue the agitation...////...
