Kalaburagi, June 11 (Reporter) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday ruled out any imminent cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka or changes in the leadership of the Pradesh Congress Committee, stating that no such proposal was before the All India Congress Committee (AICC) at present. Interacting with media persons at his residence in Kalaburagi, Kharge, who also serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, said, “There is no proposal before the AICC for an immediate cabinet reshuffle or a change of KPCC president. If and when such a decision is taken, we will inform you.” He further clarified that the issue did not come up during a recent meeting in New Delhi attended by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DO Shivakumar, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and himself. Kharge said the discussions during the meeting primarily revolved around the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium and the ongoing caste survey process in the state. Describing the stampede incident as “worrying,” Kharge said, “It should not have happened. Rahul Gandhi and I have directed the CM and DCM to take all necessary precautions to prevent such tragedies in the future.” He noted that the chief minister and his deputy had briefed them on the action taken, including suspension of police officers, announcement of a magisterial and judicial inquiry, and compensation to affected families. Responding to BJP’s demand for Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar's resignations over the stampede, Kharge countered, “Did Yogi Adityanath resign when a stampede occurred during the Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj?” He recalled that BJP leaders had objected when he raised that issue earlier. On the caste census, Kharge said although the last survey was conducted a decade ago, many community leaders have sought a fresh count. He said the party has advised the state government to initiate a resurvey, not by discarding the Kantaraj Commission report but by including castes and sub-castes previously left out. “The resurvey will be house-to-house, and new data will be integrated into the existing report,” he added. When asked about the Enforcement Directorate’s recent raid on Congress MLA Dr NT Srinivas in Kudligi, Kharge alleged that central agencies have long been used to target Congress leaders. “The NDA government is trying to divide the Congress by conducting raids, but our party remains united and will resist such tactics,” he asserted. He also questioned the accountability of funds seized during such raids, stating that details about the money are never made public...////...
