Kannur, Oct 28 (Reporter) The District and Sessions Court at Thalassery on Monday sentenced four RSS activists to life imprisonment for murdering an CPI(M) worker K Asharaf of Eruvatty near Kathirur in the year 2011. The court awarded life imprisonment to M Pranu Babu (34), V R Nidhish (36), V Shijil (35) and K Ujesh (34), all hailing from Eruvatty, Mavilai and Panuda near Thalassery. It acquitted two accused M R Sreejith and P Bineesh due to lack of evidence, while seventh and eighth accused Shijith and Sujith, who died before commencement of the trial of the case. The Koothuparamba police had filed a chargesheet against eight RSS workers in the case. Sessions Judge J Vimal also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each under various sections and also ruled that the fine amount would be given to the victim K Asharaf's family. It was on May 19, 2011, CPI (M) worker and fish vendor, K Asharaf of Eruvatty, had suffered multiple stab injuries in the attack while he was on his way to sell fish at Subedar Road at Kappumala near Kathirur. and succumbed to injuries on May 21 at a private hospital at Kozhikode...////...
