Ahmedabad, Feb 21 (Reporter) In a historic achievement, Kerala advanced to their maiden Ranji Trophy final after a dramatic draw against Gujarat in the first semifinal, securing a slender two-run first-innings lead.
Gujarat resumed their innings on Friday at 429 for seven, needing 29 runs to surpass Kerala's first-innings total of 457. Left-arm spinner Aditya Sarwate rose to the occasion, claiming all three remaining wickets. He had Jaymeet Patel (79) stumped by Mohammed Azharuddeen, trapped Siddharth Desai (30) lbw, and dismissed Arzan Nagwaswalla (10), bowling Gujarat out for 455 in 174.4 overs. Sarwate and Jalaj Saxena both finished with four wickets each, while MD Nidheesh and Nedumankuzhy Basil took one apiece.
In their second innings, Kerala faced early setbacks, losing Akshay Chandran (9) and Varun Nayanar (1) cheaply. Rohan Kunnummal contributed 32 before falling to Siddharth Desai, and Sachin Baby added 10 runs. At 114 for four, the match was declared a draw. For Gujarat, Siddharth Desai and Manan Hingrajia each took two wickets.
Kerala's first-innings total was bolstered by Mohammed Azharuddeen's unbeaten 177, with support from Sachin Baby (69) and Salman Nizar (52). This performance laid the foundation for their crucial first-innings lead.
