Kerala: 12 cows, one calf run over by train in Palakkad

Palakkad (Kerala), Apr 12 (Reporter) A dozen cows and one calf were run over by a superfast train bound for Palakkad from Chennai while they were crossing a Railway track at Meenkara Dam near Meenakshipuram in this district, on Saturday. The traffic was partially affected on the Pollachi- Palakkad route due to the incident in the morning. The herd of 13 cows were crossing the railway track as part of the routine grazing in the nearby fields around 0830 hours, when the speeding train mowed them down . The carcass was found scattered beneath the engine and a few bogies of the train on the railway track and nearby drainage areas. The train came to halt after mowing down the herd. Later, the loco pilot alerted the incident to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and they rushed to the spot and removed the carcass with the help of local people from the track and cleared the Railway track by 1030 hours. Meenakshipuram police also reached the spot and registered a case in this regard and instructed the panchayat authorities to ensure the proper burial of the carcasses. The identity of the cattle owner was not disclosed by the local residents. However, following the incident, one person reportedly collapsed upon witnessing the scene and was rushed to the nearby hospital. It is suspected that he was grazing the cattle...////...
