Bengaluru, Dec 30 (Reporter) Taiwanese electronics giant Wistron, a key Apple supplier, has announced a $20 million investment through its subsidiary to establish a new production line in Karnataka.
This forms part of a broader $40 million initiative to strengthen its after-sales service capabilities for laptop manufacturing in India.
According to regulatory filings, the investment will be routed via SMS InfoComm (Singapore) into ICT Service Management Solutions (India), both wholly-owned subsidiaries of Wistron.
The facility will focus on warranty repairs, inventory management, and logistics for laptop production.
ICT Service Management Solutions will also facilitate component sourcing from domestic and international suppliers, supporting Wistron’s operations.
In early 2024, Wistron signed an MoU with the Karnataka government, committing ₹1,500 crore for a laptop manufacturing plant. This facility, currently under construction in the Hi-Tech Defence & Aerospace Park, is expected to commence production by January 2026 and export over 50% of its output. The newly approved production line will be located near this upcoming plant.
Wistron recently purchased a 32-acre land parcel in Karnataka for Rs 160 crore to bolster its expansion plans.
Meanwhile, the company continues to adapt its business focus in India. After selling its iPhone manufacturing facility in Karnataka to Tata Group for $131 million in 2023, Wistron has maintained its presence through subsidiaries like ICT Service Management Solutions, Smartiply India, and Wistron Automotive Electronics.
