Hyderabad, May 20 (Reporter) The Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghosh-led Kaleshwaram Commission has issued notices to key political figures, including former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), as part of the ongoing investigation into the controversial Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. KCR has been summoned to appear before the Commission on June 5, while former Minister T. Harish Rao has been asked to attend on June 6, and BJP MP Etela Rajender on June 9. These developments have stirred political circles across Telangana, signalling an intensified phase of the probe. In the wake of the Medigadda barrage collapse, the state government constituted a judicial inquiry commission in March 2024, led by former Supreme Court judge Justice PC Ghosh, to investigate the construction and functioning of the Annaram and Sundilla barrages. The Commission has examined a wide range of officials from departments including construction, management, design, quality control, pay and accounts, irrigation, and finance, as well as representatives of construction companies. The government has extended the Commission's term seven times so far to accommodate the ongoing inquiry. Most recently, it was extended by one month at the end of April, setting the current deadline for the end of May. However, in light of ongoing inquiries and the need to question high-profile individuals, the government has extended the commission's tenure until July 31. However, during the investigation, several senior engineers and officials reportedly testified that major decisions were taken in the presence of the then Chief Minister KCR, and many actions were allegedly carried out on his direct orders. In light of these revelations, the Commission has now decided to record the statements of KCR, Harish Rao, and Etela Rajender to ensure a comprehensive and fair inquiry...////...
