Shimla, Sep 22 (Reporter) Justice Rajiv Shakdher of the Delhi High Court has been elevated as the Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. Justice Shakdher will serve in his new capacity until his retirement on October 18.
His elevation comes after the transfer of Justice M S Ramachandra Rao, who was heading the Himachal Pradesh High Court, to the Jharkhand High Court.
The transfer follows a petition by the Jharkhand government, which had approached the Supreme Court against the Centre for delaying Justice Rao's appointment.
In a major judicial reshuffle, the Centre issued a notification on Saturday announcing the appointment of new chief justices for seven high courts, including Himachal Pradesh.
The appointments follow the Supreme Court Collegium’s recent amendments to its earlier recommendations from July 11.
After Justice Shakdher’s retirement, the Supreme Court has recommended Justice G S Sandhawalia to take over as the chief justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, pending approval by the Centre.
