Srinagar, Feb 12 (Reporter) Kashmir Valley is experiencing colder nights and sunny days after the recent snowfall.
Over the last week, the nighttime temperatures all across the Kashmir valley were recorded below freezing point, while the day began with bright, sunny weather conditions.
On Sunday, Srinagar recorded the day's temperature at 14.5°C, which was 5.0°C above the normal of 9.5°C the previous day.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said the minimum temperature during the intervening nights of Sunday and Monday improved further by a few notches as Srinagar recorded a low of -3.6°C against the -4.7°C the previous night. It was 3.8°C below normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu National had a low of -3.2°C against the -4.4°C, while the picnic spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a low of -2.5°C against the 3.2°C the previous day.
The tourist hot spot of Pahalgam remained the coldest place in Kashmir Valley, although there was an improvement in the minimum temperature by several notches. Pahalgam recorded -7.0°C night temperature against -7.9°C. It was 2.0°C below normal for the valley of shepherds in south Kashmir.
Kupwara recorded a low of -4.4° against -4.3°C, and it was 3.2°C below normal for the frontier north Kashmir district.
The minimum temperature at Gulmarg improved by several degrees and was recorded at -4.5°C against -6.5°C the previous day. It was 1.7°C above normal for the famous ski resort of North Kashmir.
The MeT office said that the weather will remain dry until February 17, and there is a possibility of light to moderate snow or rain at many places in Jammu and Kashmir during February 18–20...////...
