J&K: Former Congress spokesperson Deepika returns to party

Srinagar, Dec 13 (Reporter) Almost two years after she resigned, Deepika Pushkar Nath on Friday announced her return to the Indian National Congress. Deepika, had resigned from the Congress in January 2023, ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra reaching Jammu and Kashmir. Her resignation came in protest against the party’s decision to permit Choudhary Lal Singh, founder of the Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan, to participate in the march at Lakhanpur. Lal Singh rejoined the Congress shortly before the Lok Sabha election. However, he went on to contest unsuccessfully in both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Deepika, a lawyer who fought for the justice of a nomad girl brutally raped and murdered in Kathua in January 2018, announced her return to Congress in Srinagar. “This decision is neither abrupt nor opportunistic—it is the culmination of introspection, my unwavering commitment to the people of J&K and my belief in Congress as the sole platform capable of addressing the pressing challenges we face,” she said. “Despite my brief absence, I have always aligned with its (Congress) ideology, values and the belief that progress must be inclusive, rights-driven and grounded in constitutional integrity,” the former party spokesperson added. She pledged to reinvigorate the Congress in J&K under the leadership of Tariq Karra, aiming to rebuild a fearless and principled party that represents the aspirations of the people...////...
