Jammu, Dec 24 (Reporter) Five soldiers were killed and as many injured when an army vehicle fell into a deep gorge in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
Army said that one 2.5-ton vehicle, part of a convoy of six vehicles while plying on the operational track on the own side close to the fence near Poonch went off the road into a nallah. Operational Track is on the home side of the LOC Fence.
"Ten jawans were travelling in the vehicle out of which five were killed," said the army adding that the injured persons were rescued and shifted to the hospital while those killed have also been evacuated to a field hospital.
"The cause of the accident is being ascertained. Possibly the driver lost control at the turn of the road," said the army.
The possibility of the incident being initiated by terrorists has been ruled out following confirmation from ground sources, said an army officer adding, "own post approx 130 metres from the incident site and the backup vehicle was barely 40 metres away."
The White Knight Corps has condoled the loss of precious lives.
"All ranks of White Knight Corps extend their deepest condolences on the tragic loss of five brave soldiers in a vehicle accident during operational duty in the Poonch sector," it further posted...////...
