Jammu, Sep 12 (Reporter) Known to be hardcore Congress loyalist Satish Sharma on Thursday filed nomination papers as Independent candidate as he turned rebel after the party denied him the ticket from the Chhamb Assembly Constituency in Jammu district that will go to poll in the last phase on October 1 in three-phase Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Son of two-time Lok Sabha Member from Jammu seat late Madan Lal Sharma, Satish Sharma on Thursday exhibited his strength by organizing an impressive rally at the time of filing nomination papers. The decision to contest as independent candidate came hours after the Congress party fielded former Deputy Chief Minister and its senior leaders Tara Chand from the Chhamb Assembly Constituency on an open seat as he belonged to the reserved category. By showing strength, Satish Sharma has given a clear message to the Congress leadership that by ignoring him, they have made a blunder. After filing his nomination papers, Satish said, “we have so many issues to raise concerning the people.” “I don’t want to get into what the party has done but I am grateful to the people for their support and affection and it is their cooperation and belief that made me take this major step.” Satish Sharma said that issues like restoration of statehood, unemployment, daily wagers, farmers, mining are among few to be his poll plank in the election. Notably, during the District Development Council (DDC) elections, which were held when the late Madan Lal Sharma was sick, Congress denied a mandate to Satish Sharma ignoring his family contribution to the party. After the demise of his father, Satish Sharma has been working in this Assembly segment to carry forward the legacy of his father who has held in this segment. Before the Chhamb assembly segment was reserved for the SC, this seat was a stronghold of the late Madan Lal Sharma. He won election on this seat in the 1983 and 1987 Assembly elections. In 1996 this Assembly segment was reserved for the SC and former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand won three successive Assembly elections of 1996, 2002, and 2008...////...
