J&K Assembly Polls: BJP Samba district chief Kashmira Singh resigns

Jammu, Aug 31 (Reporter) Alleging that the Bhartiya Janata Party is following the ideology of Sheikh Abdullah by fielding the candidate, who throughout remained in the National Conference and couple of years back joined the party, the Samba district BJP Chief Kashmira Singh on Saturday said that with 'heavy heart', he resigned from the post and the primary membership. “I have been associated with the BJP for more than four decades and served on various posts,” Kashmira Singh said after announcing his resignation from the post of the BJP district presidenship and primary membership. He added that he gave his blood and struggled to uplift the party in the district during the days when BJP had no footprints in Jammu and Kashmir. “We participated in many andolans (agitations) and remained in jails for the party but when the Samba reserve seat was declared, after 30 years, the party high command fielded an outsider,” said Singh. He said, “candidates from other constituencies and other parties, who joined the BJP only a few years ago, have been given more preferences than old loyalists.” “The BJP candidate contesting from Samba for the upcoming Assembly election was in the National Conference (NC) and carried along an ideology of Abdullahs,” he said. Notably, BJP has fielded Surjit Singh Salathia from the Samba Constituency, who remained legislator from the Vijaypur Constituency and Minister during Omar Abdullah headed National Conference government. “We cannot go along with this ideology and so with a heavy heart, I disassociate myself from the BJP,” he added...////...
