Ranchi, May 4 (Reporter) The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee is to educate its workers about "the realities" of the caste census in a bid to inform the general public about the issue. This initiative comes ahead of the party's 'Save Constitution Rally' in the state.
Jharkhand Congress President Keshav Mahato Kamlesh said that the Modi government had long mocked and opposed the demand for caste census, but due to Congress' persistent pressure and party leader Rahul Gandhi's vocal support, the Centre was forced to announce the caste census.
Kamlesh mentioned that the Congress Working Committee meeting had passed a resolution with several demands, including the immediate implementation of Article 15(5) of the Constitution to ensure reservation for SC, ST, and OBC communities in private educational institutions.
Other demands include conducting the caste census without delay, ensuring transparency and timeliness in the process, and utilising the census data to strengthen reservation, education, employment and welfare policies, he added.
He said that during the 'Save Constitution Rally', the party will raise these issues, particularly the demand for immediate implementation of Article 15(5).
