New Delhi, Jan 31 (Reporter) The problems related to monetary relief for the displaced Kashmiri Pandits in Delhi NCR will be sorted out by March, the central government has assured a delegation of the community.
The eligible displaced community members in Delhi NCR have not been receiving monetary relief since April last year and this issue was raised by the delegation of Kashmiri Samiti Delhi (KSD), a prominent organisation of Kashmiri Pandits, with Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai here.
The delegation told the Union Minister that the disbursement of the monthly relief was stopped by the Delhi Revenue Department and requested for intervention by the Central government.
The Union Minister assured the delegation that every effort would be made to address the issue after the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, according to a press release issued by the KSD.
The Central Minister said a meeting between the Chief Secretaries of J&K and Delhi NCR will be arranged and the matter will be sorted out with them as per the procedures followed by J&K UT in this case and the problem will be resolved by March 2025, the press release said.
The eight-member KSD delegation, led by its President Sumeer Chrungoo and including Vice President Sanjay Kaul, also flagged the commitment made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the enhancement of relief amount and prayed for its early implementation.
At present, each eligible displaced family is entitled to receive up to Rs 13,000/ per month as monetary relief.
The meeting also saw discussions on other pressing concerns of the Kashmiri Pandit community, many of which have remained unresolved for the past 36 years due to inaction from successive governments at both state and central levels, the press release said.
“Additionally, new challenges have emerged due to administrative neglect,” the KSD said, adding the Minister patiently listened to the delegation's concerns, addressing each issue in detail.
He assured the representatives that these matters would be resolved systematically within a stipulated timeframe.
Among other key issues discussed during the meeting was that of illegal encroachments and distress sale of the properties of displaced Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley.
The delegation highlighted the issue of widespread illegal encroachments and forced sales of Kashmiri Pandit properties, executed through Power of Attorney and distress sale deeds in the Kashmir Valley.
“Many properties were taken over unlawfully, leaving displaced Kashmiri Pandits with no means of reclaiming their rightful assets,” the Union Minister was told.
The Minister expressed deep concern over these injustices and assured the delegation that these cases would be reviewed by the J&K UT government. He encouraged Kashmiri Samiti Delhi to compile and submit detailed data on properties affected by distress sales or illegal encroachments, the press release said.
The Minister assured of every possible help in this regard.
The delegation also strongly flagged the absence of any concrete steps for the dignified, secure and permanent return of displaced Kashmiri Pandits to their homeland.
The Minister acknowledged the lack of action in this regard and requested a rehabilitation blueprint from the community, the release said.
In response, the delegation reminded the Minister that a detailed proposal, in the form of the Genocide Bill, was already pending with the government.
They urged for its passage in Parliament and the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to bring perpetrators of the genocide to justice.
The delegation stressed that rehabilitation efforts must be structured to prevent any future displacement of the community.
The Union Minister assured that all concerns raised would be addressed in a time-bound manner.
Further meetings will be held to review progress, and each step towards resolution will be transparently communicated to the community, the press release said...////...
