Islamabad suspends diplomatic ties with Iran after aerial attack

Islamabad, Jan 17 (Reporter) Iran carried out aerial attack on two key bases of a terrorist group inside Pakistan, triggering an angry reaction from the latter, which announced suspension of all diplomatic ties with the Persian nation and warned of “serious consequences” over the “illegal action”. Two important bases of the terrorist group Jaish-al-Adl in Pakistan were destroyed in the missile and drone on Tuesday night, Iranian media said. The strikes were carried out by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran’s Press TV broadcaster Immediately after the strikes, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) issued a statement, condemning the “violation” of its “airspace” by Iran and said two children were killed, and three girls were injured in the attack. On Wednesday, the FO issued another statement saying Islamabad would suspend all high-level diplomatic exchanges with Tehran “following the violation of the country's sovereignty” and declared that the Iranian envoy to Pakistan, currently visiting Iran, will not be allowed back in the country. Condemning the attack, Pakistan described it as an “unprovoked violation” of Pakistani airspace and warned Tehran of serious consequences. "This illegal act is completely unacceptable and has no justification whatsoever. Pakistan reserves the right to respond to this illegal act and the responsibility for the consequences will lie squarely with Iran," said FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch. The spokesperson added: “We have conveyed this message to the government of Iran. We have also informed them that Pakistan has decided to recall its ambassador from Iran and that the Iranian ambassador to Pakistan, who is currently visiting Iran, may not return for the time being." According to Pakistani media outlet The Express Tribune, Jaish-al-Adl is a militant group established in 2012 and has been operating from Iran’s Sistan-Baluchistan province. Tehran alleges that the group also has hideouts across the border in Pakistan. The group since its inception took responsibility of several attacks against Iran’s security forces. Interestingly, the missle and drone strikes were launched the day Pakistan Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar met with the Iranian foreign minister on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland...////...
