Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that electricity is a basic necessity for all, and ensuring its availability to everyone is a top priority of the government. He emphasized that electricity should be available at affordable rates, and highlighted the smart meter model as the best solution. He directed that smart meters be installed in every household, enabling consumers to get electricity at 20% lower rates.
CM Dr. Yadav was addressing review meeting of the Energy Department at Samatva Bhawan, Chief Minister’s Residence, on Wednesday. He noted that smart meters help consumers assess their own consumption and manage usage accordingly to reduce their bills. He instructed officials to accelerate the pace of smart meter installations. So far, over 21 lakh smart meters have been installed out of a total target of 1.34 crore.
CM Dr. Yadav discussed the recent power disruptions in May–June and instructed the department to run maintenance activities throughout the year to avoid outages due to storms, rain, or other incidents. He suggested new approaches, procurement of advanced equipment, coating of electric wires running under dense trees, reducing power/line losses, and strict implementation of energy-saving measures.
