Kanpur, Sep 30 (Reporter) India’s top-order came out all guns blazing in a scintillating display of power-hitting, cutting down Bangladesh’s first-innings lead to just 95 runs by lunch on Day 2 of the first Test at Kanpur. The opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Rohit Sharma set the tone for India’s aggressive intent. Jaiswal wasted no time in getting off the mark, while Rohit signaled his intentions by smashing his first two deliveries for sixes, sending the spectators into a frenzy. The duo raced to their fifty partnership in just three overs, sending Bangladesh on the backfoot early in the innings. Bangladesh, struggling to contain the flow of runs, introduced Mehidy Hasan into the attack. The spinner made an instant impact, breaching Rohit’s (23 off 11, 1x4 3x6s) defence to claim the much-needed breakthrough. However, the fall of the wicket did little to slow down India’s charge. Jaiswal continued to dominate alongside Shubman Gill, both finding the boundary at will as India registered the fastest-ever team 100 in Test cricket history, reaching the milestone in just 10.1 overs. The next breakthrough for Bangladesh came when Hasan Mahmud struck in his second spell, getting one to stay low and trapping Jaiswal (72 off 51, 12x4s 2x6s). Despite his departure, India continued to push forward, with Rishabh Pant walking in at No. 4 and surviving a close caught-behind appeal. At Tea, India trailed by 95 runs, leaving the hosts in a commanding position with plenty of time to build a substantial lead. Bangladesh will need to find answers quickly if they are to stop India from taking full control of the match in the next session...////...
