Bhubaneswar, Jan 8 (Reporter) The Indian Diaspora has consistently demonstrated resilience and excellence, excelling as front-runners in science and technology, leading global corporations, and shaping policies in governments worldwide, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said.
Addressing the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas at Janata Maidan here on Wednesday, Majhi highlighted the achievements of prominent Indian-origin personalities.
He mentioned business leaders like Gopichand Hinduja and L.N. Mittal, CEOs like Indira Nooyi, Sundar Pichai, and Satya Nadella, scientists like Venkat Ramakrishnan, and fashion designers like Bibhu Mohapatra, who have brought immense pride to India.
"You have embraced the cultures of your adopted home countries while nurturing and sharing the values of India—values rooted in family, community, and humanity," the Chief Minister said.
Majhi stated that this occasion celebrates the invaluable contributions of Indians worldwide and explores new opportunities for brotherhood and collaboration.
"Hosting this prestigious event in Odisha is a matter of immense honor and pride for us," Majhi remarked.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the exceptional contributions of over 30 million Indians living across 200 countries, describing them as cultural ambassadors who embody the essence of India in their host nations. "When you excel abroad, we rejoice here," he added.
Majhi emphasized that this year’s theme, “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” recognizes and celebrates the role of the Indian Diaspora in building a developed India during the Amrit Kaal.
He also noted Odisha’s progress, stating, "Today, Odisha stands as a leader in mining and industries such as steel and aluminum while emerging as a hub for sports, IT, and skill development."
The state has been making significant strides in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, ensuring inclusive growth and sustainable development. "Our recognition as a sports powerhouse is a testament to our commitment to excellence," Majhi said.
The Chief Minister extended an open invitation to reconnect with Odisha’s roots and rediscover its magic. "Whether through cultural exchanges, business ventures, or educational collaborations, we welcome your ideas, investments, and entrepreneurship," he said.
Highlighting opportunities in Odisha, Majhi pointed to sectors such as technology, renewable energy, infrastructure development, education, and tourism.
"We deeply value the role of the diaspora in promoting Brand Odisha globally," he said, describing them as ambassadors who bridge cultures and create opportunities for Odisha on the world stage.
