Shimla/Chamba, May 27(Reporter) Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Monday said INDIA alliance if voted to power would wind up the controversial Agniveer scheme as the BJP government has agitated large numbers of youth who are aspiring to join the Indian Armed forces. Addressing a public meeting in Chamba to garner support for Congress candidate Anand Sharma from the Kangra Lok Sabha constituency Priyanka criticized the scheme for rendering youth unemployed after four years without pensions or financial support in case of martyrdom. She underscored Congress' commitment to secure employment and pension benefits, contrasting it with the perceived shortcomings of the current government's policies. Priyanka Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of destabilizing the honest state government of Himachal Pradesh through financial power. She accused Modi of prioritizing the interests of his billionaire friends over the needs of the common people and not giving financial assistance to Himachal during a disaster. She claimed that Modi's policies have exacerbated inflation and unemployment, adversely affecting ordinary citizens and apple orchardists due to reduced import duties on apples. Praising Chief Minister Sukhu, Priyanka highlighted the state government's commitment to serving the people despite challenges. She commended the state administration for fulfilling guarantees, such as restoring old pensions and implementing a Rs 1500 pension scheme. She emphasized that the government, driven by clear intentions, has effectively supported disaster-affected families using its resources. Priyanka Gandhi stated that if the INDIA government voted to power under the Lakhpati Deedi scheme Rs 8500 would be paid per month to a woman in every family per month and Rs 1 lakh per year. She said that Congress has given a guarantee of filling 30 lakh vacant government posts with 50 percent reservation for women, doubling the honorarium of Anganwadi and Asha workers, Minimum Support Price, compensation within 30 days for crop damage, formation of a commission for loan waivers, and abolition of GST on agricultural equipment. Priyanka said Congress would start a Nationwide free health insurance to provide treatment of a person up to a Rs 25 lakh as this schemes already started by the Congress government in Rajasthan. She said party would ensure Rs 400 wage to MNREGA workers and to extended the scheme to urban areas. The Congress leader urged the electorate to support Anand Sharma from the Kangra constituency, assuring that his victory would bring about positive changes and fulfillment of the promises made...////...
