Warsaw/New Delhi, Aug 22 (Reporter) Amid an intensifying of the Ukraine conflict as he prepares to visit Kiev, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish PM Donald Tusk discussed the issue during their talks in Warsaw today, with PM Modi saying that India along with friendly countries is ready to provide all possible support to find a resolution to the dragging conflict.
In his media statement after talks with the Polish PM, PM Modi reiterated India’s position, which he had stated during his Moscow visit last month, that no problem can be solved in the battlefield, and that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way for early restoration of peace and stability.
“For this, India along with other friendly countries is ready to provide all possible support,” PM Modi said.
Polish PM Donald Tusk, in his comments on the issue said:
“I am very happy that Prime Minister Modi confirmed his readiness to engage in a peaceful, fair and quick end to the war. We are both convinced that India can play a very important and positive role here … especially since in a dozen or so hours the Prime Minister will be visiting Kiev. As for this visit, we are all convinced that it can also have a historical character.”
Prime Minister Modi will go to Rzeszów on Thursday night from where he will go to the Ukrainian capital to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The joint statement issued after the talks said on the Ukraine conflict:
“The two leaders expressed their deepest concern over the war raging in Ukraine including its terrible and tragic humanitarian consequences. They reiterated the need for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in line with international law, consistent with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, including respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“They also noted the negative impacts of the war in Ukraine with regard to global food and energy security, especially for the Global South. In the context of this war, they shared the view that the use, or threat of use, of nuclear weapons is unacceptable. They underscored the importance of upholding international law, and in line with the UN Charter, reiterated that all states must refrain from the threat of or use of force against the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state...////...
