Kyiv/New Delhi, Aug 23 (Reporter) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that India is for peace, and firmly believes that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way forward to resolve the Ukraine conflict, and no time should be lost in pursuing this path, even as he said India is willing to provide any humanitarian help that Kyiv wants. In his media statement, after holding talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, PM Modi said that as a friend he is willing to play any role in his personal capacity for resolution of the Ukraine conflict. With his voice laden with emotion, the PM said that his visit to the Martyrologist Exposition, a memorial built in memory of children killed in the conflict, had moved him very deeply. He said that India has adopted the path of two kinds of roles – of providing humanitarian relief, and of peace. He told President Zelenskyy that India will always provide whatever humanitarian assistance that Ukraine may require. “And I assure you that in the humanitarian aspect whatever role is needed from India we will always stand by your side, and walk two steps ahead,” he said. On India’s role in the war, he said that India has chosen to keep far away from war. “With great conviction we have kept away from war, but that does not mean we have been indifferent or neutral; we have been on the side of peace.” He said that India is from the land of the Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi where war has no role. “I have come to Ukraine today bringing with me the feelings of 140 crore of my countrymen. And they are inspired by the feelings of humanity. “I have come to Ukraine with the message of peace,” the PM said, adding that he had brought with him the messages of peace from 130 countries who attended the Global South conference hosted by India. He also said that for India respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is foremost. PM Modi said that during his meeting with Russian President Putin he had conveyed that “this is not the time for war”, and during his visit to Moscow last month he had said that “no resolution can be found on the battlefield”. “Solution can only be found through talks, through dialogue and diplomacy. “And we must move on that path without wasting further time,” the PM said. He said that both sides of the conflict – Russia and Ukraine – should sit together to find a way out of this hour of crisis, and find a path forward. “I want to assure that in the path toward peace, India is willing to play any role. “And in terms of a friend I am willing to play any role. “We want that the sun of peace rises in Ukraine.” Referring to his visit to the children’s memorial, the PM said that the biggest casualty in war is of innocent children, which is very heartrending. “These kinds of acts are not acceptable in any society, and anyone who believes in human values cannot accept this.” He also thanked the Ukrainian President for the help and support in bringing back 20,000 Indian students who were caught in the conflict in 2022. The two sides also inked four documents: in the field of Agriculture & Food Industry; Medical Products Regulation; MoU on Indian Humanitarian Grant Assistance for Implementation of High Impact Community Development Projects; and Programme for Cultural Cooperation for 2024-2028. A joint statement said on the Ukraine conflict: “The Indian side reiterated its principled position and focus on peaceful resolution through dialogue and diplomacy, as a part of which, India has attended the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, held in Burgenstock, Switzerland, in June 2024. “The Ukrainian side welcomed such participation by India and highlighted the importance of high-level Indian participation in the next Peace Summit. “The Ukrainian side conveyed that the Joint Communiqué on a Peace Framework, adopted at the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, could serve as a basis for further efforts to promote just peace based on dialogue, diplomacy, and international law.” In posts on X, the PM said: “President @ZelenskyyUa and I had very productive discussions in Kyiv today. India is eager to deepen economic linkages with Ukraine. We discussed ways to boost cooperation in agriculture, technology, pharma and other such sectors. We also agreed to further cement cultural linkages. “We also had discussions about the ongoing conflict. It is of topmost importance that peace be maintained. A peaceful solution to the conflict is best for humanity.” The MEA spokesperson said: “Deepening India-Ukraine partnership! “PM @narendramodi had fruitful discussions with President @ZelenskyyUA of Ukraine at Maryinskyi Palace in Kiev today. “The two leaders took stock of bilateral ties and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. PM Modi also handed over four BHISHM (Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog Hita & Maitri) Cubes to President Zelenskyy. These Cubes consist of medicines and equipment for the first line of care for all kinds of injuries and medical situations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Prime Minister Modi for the humanitarian assistance. The Cubes will help in expeditious treatment of the injured and contribute to saving precious lives. Each BHISHM Cube also includes surgical equipment for a basic Operation Room that can manage 10-15 basic surgeries per day. The Cube has the capacity to handle about 200 cases of diverse nature in emergency situations such as trauma, bleeding, burns, fractures, etc. It can also generate its own power and oxygen in limited amounts. A team of experts from India has been deployed to provide initial training to the Ukrainian side to operate the Cube...////...
