Chennai, Mar 17 (Reporter) India has created three world records in the cryogenic engine technology,
ISRO Chairman Dr V Narayanan said on Monday.
Speaking after launching a a new Research Centre at IIT Madras here, he said India has three
different types of cryogenic engine,a technology which was denied to India earlier.
Of the three type of engines one was human-rated, he said, adding, only six countries in the world
have this technology and was India was one among them.
He said from engine to test flight, India had mastered it in 28 months, while other countries took
between 42 months and 18 years.
He also took pride that India has the distinction of conducting the test in 34 days, which no other
country has done as they took five to six month.
Cyrogenic engine forms the third stage of the three-stage GSLV and LVM launch vehicles
used to launch heavier satellites in the Orbit.
Dr Narayanan said "the Cryogenic Engine technology was denied to India. But today, we have
three different such engines with the third one being human-rated."
"Only six countries in the world have this technology", he said.
"We have made three world records in this technology--We got it right in our third attempt. Second,
From the engine test to flight, we got it done in 28 months", the ISRO Chairman, who is also the
Secretary, Department of Space, said.
"Other countries took between 42 Months and 18 Years. And finally, we conducted the test in
34 days which no other country had done as they took around 5 to 6 months", Dr Narayanan
