Chennai, Sep 21 (Reporter) After breezy centuries by Shubman Gill and left hander
Rishab Pant, India declared its second innings at 287 for four, setting a mammoth
515 run target for Bangladesh on the third day of the first cricket test here on
Saturday.
After lunch, both the batsmen stepped up the run scoring, and Pant outscored
his partner and was the first to get to his hundred--his sixth.
However, trying to further accelerate, he stepped out and gave a return catch to
off spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Pant scored 109 in 128 balls with 13 fours and
four sixers and was involved in a 167 run stand in 36.1 overs for the fourth wicket.
After K L Rahul joined, Gill too reached his fifth hundred and remained unbeaten
on 109 (176 balls, 10x4, 4x6)a and added 53 runs in 8.3 overs for the fifth wicket
with Rahul (22 not out, 19 balls, 4x4) when India declared its second innings.
From 203 for three at the lunch break after a wicketless first session, India scored
82 runs in 13 overs and declared about little over an hour after lunch.
With the pitch easing out and not much swing for the fast bowlers but offers little turn
for the spinners, Bangladesh faces an uphill task and has seven and a half session in
its hand.
