New Delhi, Jan 30 (Reporter) India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted a wet spell over the Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains till February 4, with the possibility of heavy rainfall on January 31 and February 1.
Under the influence of two western disturbances over Northwest India during the next 5–6 days, light or moderately widespread rainfall or snowfall is expected over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till February 4 and decrease significantly thereafter, the IMD said.
Isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are likely over Kashmir Valley, Himachal Pradesh, on January 31 and February 1, and over Uttarakhand on January 31.
Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi are also likely to witness light or moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and isolated to scattered rainfall till February 4, the IMD said.
Isolated hailstorms are also likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana on January 31 and over Uttarakhand on January 31 and February 1. Strong and chilly surface winds gusting to 30–40 kmph are also likely to prevail over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on January 31.
The weather department also predicted light or moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall or snowfall over Arunachal Pradesh for the next 7 days and isolated to scattered rainfall over West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura from January 31 to February 2.
Isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh on February 2, and isolated hailstorms is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on January 31 and February 2, the IMD said.
As per IMD, dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail in the morning hours over isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, East Uttar Pradesh, and West Uttar Pradesh from January 31 to February 2.
Dense fog conditions in isolated pockets are very likely to prevail for a few hours in the morning over Odisha from January 31 to February 2, and over north Rajasthan, Gangetic West Bengal, and Bihar on January 31.
The IMD further said, “Cold day conditions are very likely to continue in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh on January 30 and abate thereafter.”
The minimum temperatures in many parts of Northwest and Central India are likely to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the next 3 days, with no significant change thereafter.
