IMD predicts rainfall over Western Himalayan Region till Feb 26

New Delhi, Feb 20 (Reporter) Parts of the Western Himalayan Region are expected to witness rainfall and snowfall activity accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning till February 26, the India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday. According to IMD, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan Region from February 24 night under the influence of scattered light to moderate rainfall and snowfall is very likely over the Western Himalayan Region from February 24 to 26. The MeT department has also predicted intense rainfall and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the Western Himalayan Region on February 20 and 21. Heavy rainfall and snowfall are very likely at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on February 20 under the influence of western disturbances over central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab in lower levels. “Isolated to scattered light moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, northeast and northwest Rajasthan from February 20 to 22,” the IMD said. Parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh are very likely to witness hailstorm activity on February 20 and 21. The IMD predicted a generally cloudy sky over Delhi on February 20 and a partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of very light rain and thundershowers on February 21. Under the influence of a fresh trough and cyclonic circulation over East India in lower tropospheric levels and likely eastwards movement of western disturbances, fairly widespread to moderate rainfall and snowfall with thunderstorms, lightning and winds gusting up to 60 kmph is very likely over Northeast India from February 20 to 23 and isolated to scattered light rainfall during February 24 to 26, the IMD said. Isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on February 21 and 22.
