New Delhi, June 12 (Reporter) The Ill-fated AI-171, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft that crashed soon after take-off in Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon, was delivered to Air India in January 2014.
Assigned the call sign VT-ANB, the aircraft, operating as AI 423, had arrived in Ahmedabad from
Delhi at 11.14 a.m.
The aircraft had in the early hours of the morning successfully completed a Paris-Delhi flight, landing at IGIA airport at 1.34 a.m. From then and until nearly 10 am, when it took off for Ahmedabad, the aircraft was on the tarmac and would have been subjected to engineering and flight safety checks.
Considered one of the safest commercial aircraft in the world, the first Dreamliner had entered service with Air India in 2012.
The ill-fated aircraft first flew in December 2013 and entered service with Air India in January 2014.
From London, the aircraft was scheduled to operate as AI 146 to Goa later today, and would have returned to Delhi Friday afternoon...////...
