IDF confirms troop deployment in buffer zone along Syrian border

Damascus, Dec 8 (Reporter) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Sunday that it had deployed forces in the buffer zone on the border with Syria due to the threat of militant infiltration. "In accordance with the situational assessment following the recent events in Syria, including the entry of armed personnel into the buffer zone, the IDF has deployed forces in the buffer zone and in several other places necessary for its defense, to ensure the safety of the communities of the Golan Heights and the citizens of Israel," the IDF said on Telegram. The IDF added that it was not intervening in the internal affairs in Syria. Later in the day, the IDF declared two agricultural areas in the Golan Heights - Ein Zivan and Buqata-Khirbet Ein Hura - a closed military zone. "Schools will carry out educational activity online in four Druze communities in the northern Golan Heights," it said. Farmers who worked in the now-closed zone will be allowed to enter specific parts of it for periods of a few hours, "based on military necessity and in full coordination with the IDF," the statement read.
