Belagavi, Dec 20 (Reporter) Karnataka Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar on Friday responded to the derogatory remarks allegedly made against her by BJP MLC CT Ravi during the ongoing winter session, emphasising her role as a mother and a public figure. Speaking to reporters at her residence, Hebbalkar said, "I am also a mother. People look up to me, and it’s crucial to set a positive example. I hope to inspire thousands to enter politics, just as I have." She expressed her distress over the incident where Ravi, in a conversation about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, referred to him as a "drug addict." In response, Hebbalkar stated, "When Ravi called Rahul Gandhi a drug addict, I asked him, ‘You’ve also been in accidents — does that make you a murderer?’" She explained that her remark was met with offensive language from Ravi, which she found deeply hurtful. Ravi was arrested and brought before a district court in Belagavi following the filing of an FIR against him based on Hebbalkar’s complaint. However, the BJP leader filed a counter-complaint, accusing Congress leaders, including Hebbalkar, of attempting to kill him. He claimed that he was taken to the Khanapura police station without explanation and that his complaint was not being registered. Ravi's lawyer, Advocate MB Jiragi, raised concerns about the legal procedure, stating, "Although Ravi was arrested under sections 75 and 79 of the BNS, we have not yet received official confirmation of his arrest, nor has he been presented before the court of law." Meanwhile, state BJP chief Vijayendra Yediyurappa condemned the handling of the case, alleging that Ravi, who suffered a head injury, was denied medical treatment. He described this as an "unpardonable act" and called for a statewide protest to express dissatisfaction with the situation.
