Srinagar, May 3 (Reporter) The Jammu and Kashmir administration placed Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under 'house arrest' and did not allow him to offer congregational Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid, the managing body of the grand mosque said. In a statement, Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid said its president and Mirwaiz was again placed under house arrest at his residence this morning, by the authorities. “ Neither was he allowed to address the faithful at Jama Masjid Srinagar nor offer obligatory Friday prayers, ” the statement said. Anjuman expressed deep dismay at the repeated house detention of Mirwaiz, especially on the important occasion of Friday, when thousands of people from the valley gathered at the historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar to listen to his enlightening Friday sermon. “They get very sad and disappointed to see the empty pulpit,” the statement said.
