Srinagar, Dec 13 (Reporter) Hurriyat Chairman and Kashmir's chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Friday said that he was barred by authorities from going to Jamia Masjid to offer congregational prayers for the second consecutive week.
Mirwaiz termed the restrictions on him as an “authoritarian mindset” by the government.
"Again disallowed from going to Jama Masjid on a Friday for the second consecutive week. As I raise people's issues and concerns from the pulpit, as is my duty, it seems to make the authorities jittery and uncomfortable, so lock him up!" the chief cleric said in a post on X.
“As if by locking me up issues will disappear and realty altered. But an authoritarian mindset can’t think beyond .. strongly condemn my house arrest and the imprisonment of thousands of Kashmiri prisoners who are victims of this mindset,” he added.
The Hurriyat Chairman also shared a video of the security policemen in front of his residence in the Nigeen area of the city.
There was no word from police or civil administration on the Mirwaiz’s claim of house arrest.

Meanwhile, Anjuman Auqaf the managing body of Jamia mosque termed the J&K administration’s approach towards the chief cleric as “hostile.
“J&K administration’s hostile approach towards the Mirwaiz is very unfortunate and betrays its fears.. Mirwaiz is being repeatedly detained as a punishment for raising public issues and concerns from the pulpit of the Jama Masjid, which is part of his responsibilities. Such actions reflect an authoritarian mindset and use of force to silence and prevent from seeking accountability,” a statement said.
The Anjuman said that the “unethical detention of the Mirwaiz and the prolonged imprisonment of thousands of Kashmiris in jails both within and outside the region will neither resolve issues nor alter realities.”
The statement claimed that the detention of Mirwaiz sparked protests in religious places in the valley...////...
