Shimla, Feb 11 (Reporter) Weather in Himachal Pradesh remains predominantly dry, with a slight dip in temperatures and light snowfall expected in higher reaches over the next 24 hours.
The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh received light snowfall on Tuesday, even as the dry spell continues in the low and mid hills of the state.
While most parts of the state continue to experience a dry spell, the districts of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and Chamba are witnessing partly cloudy skies with occasional light precipitation.
High-altitude regions such as Rohtang Pass, Atal Tunnel, and the upper reaches of Kinnaur have already received a fresh dusting of snow. Light snowfall is also anticipated in the higher elevations of Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Chamba, and Kangra in the coming hours.
However, the intensity of the snowfall is expected to be minimal, with no major disruptions to daily life.
Temperatures are predicted to drop by 2-3°C between February 11 and 13, with colder nights expected across the state. In a concerning development, an SUV skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge in Lahaul-Spiti earlier today due to black ice, a thin, nearly invisible layer of ice that forms on road surfaces.
The incident occurred during the early morning hours when temperatures were at their lowest, making the roads extremely slippery. Fortunately, the occupants of the vehicle were rescued promptly and sustained minor injuries.
