Lahaul-Spiti, Aug 4 (Reporter) A cloudburst at Chichum area in Kaza of Lahaul-Spiti district on Sunday evening at around 1730 hours, leading to a flash flood that swept through Chichum village.
Fortunately, there was no reported loss of life, though one vehicle is believed to have been carried away by the deluge, according to a local source.
Revenue and police teams were promptly dispatched to the site, and the situation is now under control, confirmed the local authorities.
In a related incident, a sudden flood on NH505 near Shichiling in the Spiti subdivision caused a road blockage, stranding several vehicles.
The SDM Kaza reported that efforts are underway to clear the obstruction and assist the stranded travellers.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall at many places, with
thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations in the districts of Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti.
Flash floods may occur in isolated areas.
Meanwhile, Shimla, Kangra, Chamba and Mandi are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall at a few places.
The search and rescue operations following the cloudburst incidents in Rajban, Bahipul, and Samej are under way.
Two more bodies were recovered today, bringing the toll from the July 31 and August 1 cloudbursts to 10.
Forty-five people, including eight students, are still missing.
Deputy commissioner Anupam Kashyap reported that the bodies were found on the banks of the Sutlej in Dakoldh and are in a severely mutilated condition, making identification difficult.
Efforts are ongoing at a rapid pace to locate the remaining missing persons, he informed.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places across the state during next 12 hours.
The IMD has sounded an Orange alert for Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti districts, following major cloudbursts in Kullu earlier this week.
