Shimla, Apr 26(Reporter) Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu launched his election campaign for the Shimla parliamentary constituency from the remote area of Dodra-Kwar in Shimla district. In a fiery speech, Sukhu lambasted the BJP for attempting to seize power through monetary influence, asserting that the people would retaliate by granting all four Lok Sabha seats to the Congress party. Sukhu accused the BJP of resorting to underhanded tactics, including attempting to sway Congress MLAs with financial inducements and plotting against the state government. He highlighted the state's achievements under his leadership, such as passing a budget focused on public welfare, including raising the daily wage for MNREGA workers and implementing a minimum support price for milk and agricultural products. One of Sukhu's key initiatives, Rs 1500 Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Samman Nidhi, aimed at providing financial assistance to women, came under attack from the BJP. Despite opposition, Sukhu proudly announced that the Election Commission had approved the scheme, which would commence on June 1, providing much-needed support to women across the state. Under Sukhu's administration, measures were taken to eradicate corruption, such as dissolving the Himachal Pradesh Subordinate Staff Selection Commission and establishing the State Selection Commission. He emphasized his humble background and commitment to public service, citing initiatives like the Mukhyamantri Sukhashraya Yojana for orphan children and educational support for widows' families. Sukhu highlighted the government's efforts in resolving legal disputes through the Revenue Lok Adalat and investing in infrastructure projects like the Jiskoon-Jakha road. He also praised the state's resilience during times of crisis, such as efficiently managing last year's natural disaster while ensuring the timely sale of apple crops. Education Minister Rohit Thakur echoed Sukhu's sentiments, criticizing the BJP for neglecting the development of constituencies like Theog, Rohru, and Jubbal-Kotkhai. He condemned the previous government's policies, including the abolition of subsidies on agricultural inputs, which had adversely affected apple growers. Congress Party's Lok Sabha candidate Vinod Sultanpuri vowed to uphold his family's legacy of service, pledging to work tirelessly for the people's welfare. He criticized the incumbent BJP MP for his lack of presence and contributions to the region's development. Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mohan Lal Brakta emphasized the Congress Party's role in the development of Dodra-Kwar and Rohru, dismissing the BJP's attempts to undermine their progress.
