HP: 4 bodies recovered, 9 workers still missing in Baddi incident

Solan, Feb 3 (Reporter)The rescue teams of police and NDRF on Saturday covered four bodies of the workers from inside the factory building at Jharmajri near Barotiwala under industrial township Baddi in Solan district. Meanwhile, the state government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Baddi Additional SP Ashok Verma to further investigate the causes and lapses that led to breaking out of massive fire in the factory that claimed five lives and left 32 seriously injured in the mishap. The police have also arrested the Plant Manager Chander Shekhar of NR Aroma on various charges and special teams have also been dispatched to different destinations to nab the owner of the industrial unit. The state Health and Family Welfare Minister DR Shandil along with Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Doon MLA Ram Kumar and officers of Nalagarh Subdivision officers had also visited the site of tragedy on Friday evening and given directions to speed up the relief and rescue operations. The Minister and MLA had also visited the Baddi hospitals to enquire about the well_ being of workers who had sustained grievous injuries after they jumped for the building to save their lives after the fire started engulfing the factory and thick smoke and flames covered the industrial complex. A devastating fire broke out in NR Aroma on Friday afternoon reportedly after the factory staff had started heating up the chemical_ filled container. It was being said that as soon as the heat level of the container reached the maximum limit, it suddenly busted and caught fire that spread inside the complex speedily as the factory in question was engaged in manufacturing of perfumes, being prepared with highly inflammable materials. The flammable materials further help the fire to spread speedily in the building giving minimum time to workers to come out from the complex. Around 32 workers jumped from the different floors of the building to save their lives which led to fractures in Spinal cord, Legs and Arms of the workers. A female worker was declared brought dead in the hospital on Friday evening. Some of the workers alleged that the situation turned terrible after someone closed the gates of the unit. The workers said that the factory management did not make any emergency provision for exit in the building which led to causalities and injuries. DGP Sanjay Kundu who also visited the spot issued necessary directions to launch the search operations to trace the missing workers. Talking to media persons, Mr Kundu said that the police are obtaining the list of total workers. He said that a case has been registered on the charges of culpable homicide and others Astha factory management did not comply with the laws and norms. During the investigations, all the angles will be looked into including the failure of the management in complying with the norms. The exact number of missing persons could only be ascertained only after NDRF team ensured the structural safety of the building. He also said that police are recording the statements of the workers admitted to various hospitals. A control room has also been set up to provide information to the family members of the victim and affected factory workers...////...
