Himachal registers 70.07 per cent polling

Shimla, June 2 (Reporter) Himachal Pradesh registered over 70 per cent polling in Lok Sabha and 74 in Assembly Bye-Election on Saturday, state election department stated Sunday releasing poll percentage received till late night. According to SED spokesperson Mandi parliamentary constituency registered 72.15 per cent polling, Hamirpur 70.70 pc, Shimla 70.04 and Kangra 67.24 pc. In Lahaul Spiti assembly byeelections 75.09 pc pilling took place, Dharmshala 71.30 pc, Sujanpur 74.53 pc, Badsar 72.31, Gagret 75.49 pc and Kutlehar 77.43 pc . The state registered around 69 pc polling till 6 pm but due to long queues of voters outside the polling both and snags in around 50 EVMs polling was allowed to complete till the last voter exercised his rights. All the EVMs and VVPAT were kept in designated strong room and polling was mainly peaceful baring few skirmishes in the state, the ECI said. The Election Commission set the target at 80 per cent but barring Nahan and Siraj none could reach the figures. The blistering heatwave also affected voter turnout...////...
