Shimla, Jan 16 (Reporter) Himachal Pradesh's higher altitudes have been blanketed with fresh snowfall, causing a significant drop in temperatures and disrupting normal life. Regions like Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and the upper parts of Chamba, Kullu, and Kangra districts are witnessing moderate to heavy snowfall, while Shimla and its surrounding areas, including Kufri and Narkanda, have reported light to moderate snow. This change in weather has resulted in severe cold wave conditions across the state, making travel challenging and impacting daily activities. The Rohtang Tunnel area, Keylong, and Sisu in Lahaul-Spiti have been experiencing heavy snowfall, leading to hazardous road conditions. Vehicles have been reported stuck in these areas, and the district administration has warned tourists and locals to avoid unnecessary travel during this period. Similarly, Kinnaur and its adjoining high-altitude regions are under thick layers of snow, further adding to the risks of traveling. Visibility has significantly reduced, and frost is posing a threat to agriculture, livestock, and outdoor activities. Shimla City, along with Kufri and Narkanda, has received a fresh spell of light to moderate snowfall, while lower areas in the district have been experiencing rainfall. Mandi and Sirmaur districts are facing similar conditions, with light to moderate rain and occasional thunderstorms. Hamirpur, Kangra, and Una have received light rain at isolated places. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for continued snowfall in the higher reaches and light to moderate rain in lower areas over the coming hours. The cold wave gripping the state is likely to persist, with frost conditions being observed in many areas. This has further increased the need for precautionary measures to safeguard crops, cattle, and pets. The district administration has urged residents and tourists to remain vigilant and avoid travelling to high-altitude regions during snowfall. Travellers have been advised to carry emergency supplies and be prepared for delays or road closures. The disaster control rooms in the affected districts are operational to assist in emergencies. With heavy clouds hovering in the sky and visibility remaining poor, people are advised to follow official weather updates and plan their activities accordingly.
