Shimla, Feb 26 (Reporter) The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh experienced heavy snowfall, while downstream areas were lashed by intermittent rainfall over the last 24 hours.
The state capital, Shimla, and nearby areas witnessed intermittent rain or snowfall (in higher reaches), intensifying the cold wave in the region.
According to the district administration, continuous snowfall has been reported in Lahaul-Spiti district, disrupting daily life. Heavy hsnowfall has been recorded in residential areas, with Rohtang Pass receiving 75 cm of snow, Koksar 45 cm, Atal Tunnel North Portal 45 cm, South Portal 40 cm, Keylong 30 cm, and Udaipur 25-30 cm. The recent snowfall has caused disruptions in road connectivity and normal activities.
The Meteorological Center in Shimla has forecast continuous snowfall and rainfall across Himachal Pradesh until March 4. An orange alert has been issued for February 27 and 28 in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Mandi, warning of heavy to very heavy rain and snowfall. Additionally, a yellow alert has been placed for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti from February 26 to 28.
Light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected at many places in the higher reaches of Kangra, Chamba, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Sirmaur, Lahaul-Spiti, and Kinnaur. On March 1, the state will witness scattered rainfall, while on March 2, only isolated places will experience precipitation. On March 3 and 4, light snowfall and rain may occur in some areas.
Several regions have recorded significant precipitation in the last 24 hours. Jot in Chamba received the highest rainfall of 59.4 mm, followed by Manali (30 mm), Seobagh (25.2 mm), Sarahan (22.5 mm), and Bhuntar (21.8 mm). Snowfall data includes Kukumseri (41.0 cm), Kalpa (13.8 cm), Keylong (12.0 cm), Khadrala (10 cm), and Sangla (3.5 cm).
Temperatures dipped across the state, with Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti recording the coldest temperature at -3.6 degree Celsius, followed by Tabo (-2.8°C), Kukumseri (-0.5°C), and Kalpa (0.4°C).
Minimum temperatures in other areas include Shimla at 7.4°C, Manali at 2.1°C, Dharamsala at 4.4°C, Mandi at 11.8°C, Chamba at 10.8°C, Dalhousie at 7.9°C, and Una at 10.2°C.
With the prevailing weather conditions, authorities have advised travellers and residents to exercise caution, especially in snowbound areas. The administration is on alert to deal with any disruptions caused by heavy snowfall and rain...////...
