Heatwave: Odisha schools shut for 3 days

Bhubaneswar, April 17 (Reporter) As Odisha continued to sizzle under unprecedented heatwave conditions, the state government on Wednesday announced the closure of all schools across the state for the next three days. Both government and private schools will remain closed from April 18 to April 20, as per a government notification. Several parts of Odisha have been experiencing intense heatwave conditions for the past few days, forcing people to remain indoors during peak hours. On Tuesday, the daytime temperature rose above 40 degrees Celsius in as many as 29 locations, with Baripada town in north Odisha becoming the hottest place in the state as the mercury hovered at 43.6 degrees Celsius. In at least 18 places, the mercury soared above 41 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The IMD has predicted that hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail in Odisha for the next five days, with heatwave conditions expected to persist in several districts. It has also warned that in the next two days, the daytime temperature will rise above 45 degrees Celsius in some places in the state between April 18 and April 20...////...
