Heat wave conditions likely over parts of North India

Chandigarh, May 19 (Reporter) Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are likely to experience heat wave to severe heat wave conditions till May 23, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday. Severe heat wave conditions are very likely at a few places over southern and western parts of Haryana and Punjab during this period, with the possibility of the maximum temperature reaching 46-47 degree Celsius at some pockets. Dry weather is most likely to continue over Punjab, Haryana an Chandigarh during the next 4-5 days. High Maximum temperatures are prevailing over parts of southern and western Punjab and Haryana with the maximum temperatures nearing 45-46 degree Celsius. An IMD Spokesperson said the maximum temperatures over Northern regions including Chandigarh are about 43-44 degree Celsius. No large change in maximum temperature is likely during the next 2 days, but over the subsequent three days the mercury could climb a further 1-2 degree Celsius. The maximum temperatures over parts of southern and western Haryana and Punjab are very likely to be around 45-46 degree Celsius during the next 4-5 days.
