Chandigarh, Sep 23 (Reporter) The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday allowed the Punjab government to recruit 1,158 assistant professors and librarians, lifting curbs on hiring imposed by a single bench while cancelling the recruitment process last year.
The recruitment process initiated in 2021 had been under judicial scrutiny after the said order.
Some 484 appointees had joined their positions two years back, however, were yet to receive postings. Only 135 were allotted stations and getting salaries.
The Punjab government in its appeal cited severe shortage of teachers in government colleges.
Meanwhile, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains wrote on X , “Our government has successfully won the appeal in the 1,158 Asst. Professor's case. Congrats to all involved, especially our dedicated legal team!
This is the second major recruitment victory after 2,364 ETT. Both were pending in court for a long time due to faults of the previous government. A step forward for a better future of Higher Education in Punjab. Thanks to all the candidates who showed trust in us and waited patiently till today...////...
