New Delhi, June 21 (Reporter) India has sought a verified stop to the recruitment of its nationals by the Russian Army to fight in the war against Ukraine, even as 10 Indians have been released and repatriated to the country, the MEA said on Friday. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, answering questions at a media briefing, said: “We have again taken up the issue, and we have been continuing with the process. We have been engaged with the Russian authorities both here and also in Moscow, so that people who have been serving in the Russian army can be released and repatriated to India as soon as possible.” He said the number of Indians who contacted the ministry so far, is between 20-25 people as they wanted to be released. “Of these, 10 people have actually been released and repatriated back to India,” he added. "Of the two people who died recently, we are in touch with their family members. We are also in touch with the Russian defence ministry, and the foreign ministry so that the mortal remains can be brought to India as soon as possible,” the spokesperson said. “We have sought a verified stop to the recruitment, and taken up the issue with all sincerity with the Russian authorities with the expectation that they are going to act. It is a matter or utmost and deep concern to us, and the Russian authorities will act on it soon,” he said. Earlier this month, the MEA had said that two Indian nationals who had been recruited by the Russian Army had been killed and that it has taken up the matter strongly with the Russian authorities, as well as demanded the early release and repatriation of all Indians fighting the war. "Such activities would not be in consonance with our partnership.
