Dambulla, July 21 (Reporter) Harmanpreet Kaur, India's captain, and Richa Ghosh, the team's attacking wicketkeeper-batter, made headlines in the ongoing Women's T20 Asia Cup 2024 as they scripted history for their side on Sunday. Harmanpreet broke the record for the highest individual score as captain in women's T20 Asia Cup, while Richa shattered the record for the highest individual score by a wicketkeeper-batter in the tournament's history. Richa scored a blistering 64 runs from just 29 balls at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium here during the day. Her incredible knock not only broke the record but also helped India post their highest-ever total in T20 Internationals, reaching a massive 201/5. This surpasses their previous best of 198/4 against England in March 2018. The previous record for the highest individual score by a wicketkeeper-batter was held by Bangladesh's Nigar Sultana, who scored 53 runs against Malaysia in the previous edition of the tournament. Richa's achievement is a testament to her growing reputation as a force to be reckoned with in women's cricket. Richa came into bat in the 12th over, replacing Jemimah Rodrigues, and quickly got into her stride. She hit a six off the sixth ball she faced and then took down Esha Oza with three consecutive fours in the 15th over. In the penultimate over, she had a mix-up with skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who lost her wicket. Richa responded by hitting five consecutive fours off Heena Hotchandani and eventually reached her half-century from just 26 balls. Her innings was marked by 12 fours and a six. Harmanpreet's own innings was equally impressive as she scored a 47-ball 66, laced with seven fours and a six.
