Port-au-Prince, Dec 11 (Reporter) The international airport in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince resumed flights about a month after being closed due to shooting attacks on American airliners, the Haitian government said.
"Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aime announces the resumption of commercial flights at Toussaint Louverture International Airport starting Tuesday, December 10, 2024," the document read.
The airport's reopening highlights Haitian efforts to restore security in the Caribbean island country and stimulate its economy, the government said.
The Haitian authorities ordered regular patrols at the airport and the establishment of checkpoints. A test flight was conducted between Port-au-Prince and the northern port city of Cap-Haitien to verify security measures.
In mid-November, gunmen shot at a Spirit Airlines plane when it was about to land in Port-au-Prince, injuring a flight attendant. Another American airline, JetBlue, reported bullet holes in the fuselage of a plane after it flew to Haiti. The shootings prompted the US Federal Aviation Administration to ban American passenger aircraft from flying to Haiti for 30 days...////...
