Patna, Mar 24 (Reporter) Bihar government has allocated an estimated Rs 15,588.28 crore for the Green Budget in the financial year 2025-26 which is 12.77 percent more than the financial year 2024-25 when the Green budget was Rs 13,823.39 crore.
Bihar Finance Minister Samrat Choudhary tabled the Green Budget 2025-26 during the pre-lunch sitting in the state assembly on Monday which accounts for 1.42 percent of the state's gross state domestic product and 4.92 percent of the state's total budget.
Later Choudhary said here that the adoption of the Green Budget by Bihar expresses the broader national commitment towards sustainable development.
The implementation of the Green Budget includes monitoring the expenditure on environmental projects and ensuring that the funds allocated for the green initiative are used effectively, he maintained. Ensuring accountability, also helps in evaluating the success of various programmes.
He said that under the Green Budget, priority has been given to projects related to renewable energy, water conservation, afforestation, waste management, and pollution control.
Choudhary said that the government wishes to see Bihar as a leader in environmental protection, where development coexists harmoniously with nature, and future generations inherit a state that is prosperous, equitable, and environmentally safe.
Through this Green Budget, the government has pledged to fulfill the environmental obligations while advancing the socio-economic aspirations of our citizens.
